Just before lunch Company 38 and units from surrounding areas were dispatched to 311 Speece Lane for a structure fire. LT 38-1 and Engine 38 responded in minutes, and requested the full first alarm assignment due to daylight staffing shortages. The Engine arrived to find a 80X150 pole barn style building with heavy fire conditions present. The Engine crew immediately put hand lines into service and began an aggressive interior attack, which darkened the fire down considerably. Crews then ran out of water and the fire took off until mutual aide companies arrived and a good water supply was obtained. The fire marshall investigated and the fire was deemed started by welding in the shop. One worker was transported to the hospital with burns, and company 38 is pulling for a speedy recovery. One firefighter from company 38 was also transported the Hershey medical center with second degree burns on his back, he is home resting comfortably. Thanks to E-55 and Tanker 26 for the standby, and 55 for helping us pack hose. |
